The following instructions will describe how to safely and easily uninstall old or unused programs from your computer.

How to Uninstall a Program Manually

Many novice users think a program can be uninstalled by simply deleting the program’s icon from the desktop. In fact, this way doesn’t work since the icon is only a shortcut to the real program. If you want to uninstall programs thoroughly, all of related files should be cleaned out.

To uninstall a program by hand, you should first know which program you will never use and where the program is located in. And the premise is you must know well of computer knowledge. . If you are sure that, two manual methods below are for you. If not, an automated way is also introduced at last.

1. Use Start Menu. Click the Start menu, and then click All Programs (or Program Files) to see a list of programs installed on your computer. Click the “uninstall” option from the folder icon of the Program in the list, and then follow the wizard to safely remove the program.

2. Use Control Panel. On the Start menu, click Control Panel, and then under Programs, do one of the following:

Windows 7 and Windows Vista users: Click Uninstall a Program.

Windows XP users: Click Add or Remove Programs.

A long alphabetical list of installed programs will be seen, from which find the program you want to uninstall and then:

Windows 7 and Windows Vista users: Click Uninstall.

Windows XP users: Click the Remove or Change/Remove tab (to the right of the program).

However, after uninstalling a program, there are lots of leftovers left on your pc which will decrease computer speed and not all of programs provide “uninstall” option.  Thus, you’d better use an uninstall tool to help you.
